IGBO New Yam Festival in GHANA Has Been POSTPONED till Further Notice

The Igbo Day/New Yam Festival, originally set for September 21, 2025, at Efua Sutherland Park, Accra, has been postponed until further notice, according to an official statement from the festival’s organizing committee.
The announcement, signed by Chief Elder Bright Chiawalam, Chairman of the Igbo Day/New Yam Festival Committee, stated that the decision followed careful deliberation and consultation. The committee stressed the need to host the event in an atmosphere that reflects the excellence, dignity, and unity the Ndi Igbo community and their friends in Ghana and beyond deserve.
“We understand the deep cultural and emotional significance of this annual celebration to Ndi Igbo and our friends across Ghana and beyond,” the statement read.
The New Yam Festival is one of the Igbo people’s most important cultural events, marking gratitude for the harvest and the renewal of life. It attracts large gatherings, including Igbo diaspora members and well-wishers from diverse backgrounds.
The committee assured the public that a new date will be announced in due course, promising that the rescheduled festival will be “bigger, better, and even more impactful.”
In the meantime, the organizers appealed for patience and continued support, noting that preparations are ongoing to ensure the event meets the highest cultural and celebratory standards.
