The war against “one chance” robbery syndicates in Abuja just claimed another victory. Operatives of the FCT Police Command’s Anti-One Chance Unit have arrested six suspects, neutralized one, rescued a victim, and recovered the gang’s operational vehicle.

According to CSP Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the command, the breakthrough came on August 6, 2025, at about 8:30 a.m.. While on routine patrol along Kubwa Expressway, officers spotted Angel Patrick being pushed out of a moving vehicle.

One team immediately stopped to rescue the victim and rushed her to Zankwochi Hospital, Mabushi, for urgent treatment. The second team—made up of undercover operatives—pursued the fleeing suspects into Aso, Mararaba in Nasarawa State.

After a high-speed chase and a fierce gun battle, the suspects were stopped. Five men were arrested on the spot:

  • Jude Simon (Mararaba)
  • Emmanuel Akor
  • Daniel Benson
  • Uche Thomas
  • Tope Ola

All are residents of Mpape and had been on the Command’s wanted list. Their operational vehicle, a dark grey Toyota Corolla, was seized.

One suspect was killed in the exchange of fire and later confirmed dead at Asokoro General Hospital. Investigations revealed another member, John Simon, had previously been arrested in December 2024 for the same offence, charged, and remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre.

Recovered items include:

  • One vehicle
  • Six ATM cards believed to belong to past victims
  • One jackknife
  • ₦115,000 in cash
  • Personal items suspected to be stolen property

The suspects confessed to being long-time “one chance” operators targeting unsuspecting commuters.

FCT Commissioner of Police praised the swift and professional action of the officers and reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to flush out criminals from the city. He urged residents to remain alert when boarding vehicles and to use only approved motor parks.
