Top BOKO HARAM Commander ABU NASR KILLED in Failed Attack on Rann

Another high-ranking terror figure has fallen. Abu Nasr, also known as Amir Fiya, a top Boko Haram commander, was killed in Rann, the headquarters of Kala Balge Local Government Area in Borno State, during a failed assault on Nigerian forces.
The attack, launched by Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters infiltrating from Cameroon, began on the night of Thursday, August 7, 2025, and raged into the early hours of Friday, August 8. Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) met the terrorists head-on, with ground forces and air assets working in tandem to repel the incursion.
By dawn, the battlefield told the story—scores of insurgents were dead, including Abu Nasr himself. Seven bodies were recovered immediately, with blood trails marking the escape routes of more wounded fighters.
The mop-up revealed the weapons of war left behind: AK-47 rifles, loaded magazines, rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) bombs, and other explosive devices.
Victory came at a cost. Two Nigerian soldiers were killed when an RPG struck their vehicle. Yet the troops’ morale remains unshaken, and clearance operations in the area continue.
Rann, sitting about 197 kilometres from Maiduguri and right on the Cameroon border, has long been a hotspot for cross-border terrorist activity. This latest clash is another reminder that while the fight is far from over, the enemy’s leadership is being picked apart—one commander at a time.
